St. Philip's In The Community

Carolers spread Christmas Cheer!

After several weeks of practicing under the leadership of Ashley McCart, several of St. Philip's younger members presented several Carols to the residents at McKendree Nursing Home in Hermitage. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the children and the children were blessed to have been able to share a little Christmas cheer.

The Pastoral Care Committee and the Lay Eucharist Ministers have combined their efforts of visitations in the parish. Meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, they want the congregation to know that their ministry is to visit the members of the parish, take communion to those who desire it, send cards, e-mails and make phone calls. There is also a bulletin ministry where printed sermons are sent to the home-bound and ill members of the parish. If you'd like to volunteer for the bulletin ministry, call 883-2910.

There are members of St. Philip’s who are unable to attend services and functions due to lack of transportation. This service is already being provided by many of you and by family members. However, there are some who still need rides, either on a regular schedule or occasionally, such as for evening services. The PC/EV wants to offer this ministry of transportation to members. In addition to rides to church, these volunteers would be available to drive members to doctor appointments and other needed services.

You don’t have to be a member of the PC/EV to volunteer to be a driver. Please feel free to contact any member of the committee, our clergy, or the church office if you need a ride to church or to an appointment, or if you are available to provide rides, or to be the contact person for this ministry. A contact person for this ministry will be listed later in the Sunday bulletin.

Room in the Inn The first night for this ministry at Donelson Heights UMC is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4. St. Philip’s has partnered with DHUMC for a number of years to provide a warm place to sleep and meals for the homeless of Nashville during the months of November through March. Contact Pam Foster if you can help.

Room in the Inn's Campus for Human Development Please watch for a sign-up sheet in Michaud Hall and more specifics about what is needed to feed lunch to about 50 men at the Campus (especially locally grown produce like tomatoes and cucumbers plus home baked brownies or cookies). The men we serve are working to take back their lives through treatment programs, counseling, and education. The next lunch is scheduled for Sunday, November 8. Contact Beverly, Linda or Jennifer to volunteer to help us fill treat bags and prayer cards.
