Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank Emergency Food Box (EFB) Program -

The date for the first delivery of food is Monday, November 9th, and first day to serve clients will be Tuesday, November 10th. A lot will happen before those dates! Equipment will be moved from the old location, volunteers will be scheduled, and computer training will be offered. We had a gathering of 40+ on Monday, October 12th at St. Philip’s. There were representatives from Andrew Price UMC, Holy Rosary, Pennington UMC, St. John’s Lutheran, and St. Philip’s (including our Boy Scout Troop). A big thanks to area businesses that donated food (Kroger, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, and Subway).

The Second Harvest EFB Manager Kim Mills and EFB site managers Pat Rowlett, Linda Grace, and Pam Foster updated the participants on the move. Pastor Vicki reinforced the need to follow the EFB guidelines and policies with a presentation about being “Ministers of the Gospel, Not Enablers or Co-dependents” - following Jesus’ lead in restoring people to wholeness.

Volunteers are needed to work on Monday mornings to receive
the food shipment and pre-box the delivery. Also needed are volunteers to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. (please arrive at least 15 minutes before the shift begins) to greet and answer questions, check clients in at a computer, and work in the pantry. Other volunteers will be needed to make sure the pantry is kept clean and extra boxes packed. A Sunday coffee break open house will be scheduled after the opening so that parishioners have the opportunity to see the operation. For prospective volunteers who work, there probably will be the opportunity for you to arrive at a later time and relieve those who started work at 4:00 p.m. Please contact Pat (773-3510),
Linda (773-8571), or Pam (391-5465) if you have questions
or want to volunteer.
