Please join us after service this Sunday during coffee hour in Michaud Hall to visit with our dear friends Mark & Susan Powell, Barnabas International (barnabas.org). Through Barnabas, Mark & Susan work with people who work in countries that do not allow “missionaries,” they use different terminology (global workers, lifting up, scripture, etc.) to protect these precious servants. They have traveled from Malaga, Spain to reconnect with friends and long-time supporters before they return to the mission field to support the emotional and spiritual needs of global workers (missionaries).
The financial partnership St. Philip’s provides means they can offer pastoral care to those who are sharing the good news of the gospel in places like North Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and in other parts on this side of the globe. Their work focuses mostly on those serving in challenging contexts (think Muslim countries, developing countries, restrictive and closed countries) where there are very few support resources. The different kinds of care Mark & Susan offer include counseling, spiritual direction, debriefing, general pastoral care and support, and psychological and spiritual educational training. This would simply not be possible without partnerships like St. Philip’s. Many would have to leave the field due to burn-out, moral injury, transition challenges, trauma, and a host of mental health issues.
The love of Christ shared and lived out in these parts of the world continues on! Both St. Philip’s and the Powells have been invited into the Larger Story. What a privilege!
Peace and love,
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church
