Life Events

Baptism

Baptism is the entrance into the Church. In it, we are buried with Christ and die to sin, and through it we are raised with him to eternal life. There are no age requirements or restrictions on baptism. All baptisms are planned in coordination with the rector.

Confirmation

For those baptized as babies, confirmation is the public choice to profess the faith and take on the vows their parents made for them. For those coming from other traditions, confirmation is entry into the Episcopal Church. Confirmations are only carried out by the bishop, and therefore only take place on certain dates. If you are interested in being confirmed, contact the church office to learn more.

Marriage

Marriage is the uniting of two people through the power of the Holy Spirit into “one flesh” in the eyes of God, the Church, and the world. In the Episcopal Church, all marriages take place at the discretion of the rector. If you are interested in being married at St. Philip’s, contact Mother Caroline at mother.caroline@stphilipsnashville.org.

Funerals

The Burial of the Dead is a service of both grief in loss and hope in the resurrection. St. Philip’s hosts funerals for members and others, and offers burial space for cremains. For more information, contact the church office.
